God is not looking for successful servants to serve Him, but faithful ones.
This past week, our pastoral staff attended the bi-annual conference of Chinese Baptist Association of US and Canada. Dr. Daniel Brock was the keynote speaker helping pastors learning to preach from the book of Ezekiel. There were other workshops as well and participants were well fed spiritually.
I got a cold at the conference yet I was able to fellowship with some pastors whom I seldom see. Two of them consider me as their spiritual mentor and they shared with me their struggles and challenges in ministry. One of them had been forced to leave his church and another one felt that he had no more energy to move forward. I also learned that there were ministers who were seriously depressed and have been receiving counseling treatment. Another pastor told me that his church had shut down their English ministry and another pastor said that all his English speaking people were gone. What I could do was to use Dr. Brock’s sharing to encourage them: God is not looking for successful servants to serve Him, but faithful ones. I am thankful for the perseverance of these pastor friends yet I feel sad to learn about their struggles and pain.
My Father in Heaven, I thank and praise you for your protection and watching over your servants. You don’t allow them to quit from ministry due to difficulties and failure. My Father in Heaven, I thank and praise you for providing them with such an opportunity to rest and rejuvenate their energy to serve you. O My Father in Heaven, I ask you to give them and their spouse double portions of your grace at the time of their struggles. I ask you to make them aware that you have never left them. Please add them the double strength and give them the courage to stand firm and win the spiritual warfare. Amen.
