This past week, two sisters in Christ came to visit us from New York. Even though we met for the very first time, we talked like longtime friends and were able to share our personal experiences. They came to Bay Area to look for a seminary and lodging for one of the sisters. This sister in Christ encountered God when she planned to end her life. She saw a light from a dark sky and heard the voice to stop what she planned to do. The voice also promised to heal her chronic pain and sleeplessness. She never read the Bible or attended any church but God revealed Himself to her in such a special way. After the incident, she felt to sleep and when she got up, her pain was gone. Since then, she was fully recovered.

My wife and I were encouraged by her testimony because her experience affirmed God’s grace even to people whom not even heard about the Gospel. He said: I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion. (Romans 9:15)

Let’s continue to pray for our non-believing family and friends and don’t be discouraged. For the God we believed is a God of mercy and love. He does not want to see anyone perish but repent and goes back to Him. He always gives people multiple opportunities to do so like what He did to Israelites in the time of Judges. He will also take the initiative of calling people to rely on Him.

I will search for the lost and bring back the strays. I will bind up the injured and strengthen the weak, but the sleek and the strong I will destroy. I will shepherd the flock with justice. (Ezekiel 34:16)

——————-

Last Monday night, when I returned to my office to work, I met the sister in Christ who accompanied our high schoolers to New York for a one week short term mission. She told me that our high schoolers were trained and practiced once on how to do street
evangelism the day before they were sent out to the central district of the City. That was totally a new experi-ence to all of them.

I asked this sister whether the high schooler were afraid and what were their experiences? I was surprised to learn that they were paired up and went out together to share the Gospel of Christ to strangers on street. While they were rejected many times and none who were willing to listen accepted Christ, they gained valuable insights about themselves, the needs of people, individuals from various cultures and different ways of presenting the Gospel. They had no fear as what I was told. I thank God for them and I am proud to have these young people at my church.

I know that many adult Christians who do not have the courage to do what these young people had done. The reasons vary from fear, inadequate knowledge of the Bible, and don’t have the ability of persuasion, etc. These young people who didn’t have much training but once they knew what their mission was, they took courage to do their job. I believe that they knew what they need to do is to tell and share with people God’s love and Jesus’ salvation. They are not responsible for whether their listeners would believed or not

Jesus said: Behold, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves, so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves. (Matthew 10:16) We don’t have a choice whether to go out and share the Good News of Christ be-cause it is a command from Our Lord. Since this is from God, we don’t need to worry or scare because He knows our situation and the danger we encountered. He cautioned us to be prudent yet should not be tricky. He promised to go with us and His grace and strength will be with us. What we need to do is to obey and go!

Built Up in the Act of Love

I would like to praise and thank God, our Father in Heaven that we have over 500 people joining the Daring Faith Campaign beginning last Sunday in our Milpitas Campus. We have been divided into 44 groups and I was told that there were an additional 40+ people signed up after the Sunday service. The two intergenerational services went pretty well except there were some confusion in the afternoon due to many life groups meeting at the same time in our limited space. Overall, everything is well. I would like to give thanks to our special task force and to many other brothers and sisters in Christ who worked really hard to help us have a very good beginning.

I feel that if we can take this opportunity to encourage one another in seeking spiritual growth: doing devotions everyday, actively take part in group discussion and sharing, praying for the action plan at the conclusion of your life group, and communicating with God anytime for His guidance, I am confident that we will experience the truthfulness of the Bible and our spiritual life will grow to a higher level.

May I also encourage all the adults in taking the initiative to talk to the elderly and the youth at church, learning to show care, understand their needs, and pray for them. I would like to challenge you to develop the habit of caring for one another and praying for one another so that we will be built up in the act of love.

I remember when we first started Crosspoint Church. We encouraged the congregation to talk to people they don’t know or they are not familiar with after the worship service. I am thinking whether we can resume this practice of talking to unfamiliar people before and after our worship services so that people will feel welcomed.

(We Are One Big Family)。
